Description

The Indian Society of Artificial Intelligence and Law (ISAIL) is pleased to submit its feedback on the Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) draft ‘Operational Guidelines for Single Ethics Review of Multicentre Research in India.’

We commend the ICMR for taking this critical and necessary step toward streamlining the ethics review process, which is essential for accelerating high-quality, large-scale health research in India. A harmonized, single-window clearance mechanism will significantly improve efficiency and collaboration across institutions.

As an organization focused on the ethical and market-adaptive standardisation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science in medicine, our feedback is specifically geared towards ensuring these guidelines are future-proof. We aim to highlight crucial areas related to data governance, digital research methodologies, and the unique ethical complexities that AI-enabled research—often involving massive, multi-site data collection—will introduce into the multicentre research landscape.

We believe that by incorporating explicit provisions for these digital and data-intensive aspects, the guidelines can reinforce participant protection and public trust in an era of rapidly advancing medical technology.

Thank you for the opportunity to contribute to this vital national policy.
